A Practical Daily and Weekly Home-Cleaning Checklist
A manageable cleaning routine is easier to follow when tasks are grouped by frequency. This sample checklist can be adapted to the size of your home, the number of residents and the support available.
Daily tasks
- Make beds and put frequently used items back in their usual places.
- Wipe kitchen counters and the dining surface after use.
- Wash dishes and keep the sink area clear.
- Sweep or spot-clean high-traffic areas when needed.
- Empty small waste bins when full and keep waste separated as required.
- Return cleaning products and equipment to their designated storage place.
Weekly tasks
- Clean bathroom surfaces, taps, mirrors and commonly touched points.
- Mop floors and clean corners that are missed during daily tidying.
- Dust shelves, window sills and reachable furniture surfaces.
- Change bed linen and towels according to the household routine.
- Clean appliance exteriors and organise the refrigerator shelves as needed.
- Review laundry, ironing and other tasks that do not need daily attention.
Monthly or occasional tasks
Plan less frequent work such as cleaning fans, reachable window tracks, cupboard interiors and storage areas. Some tasks may require extra time, equipment or professional assistance, so agree on them separately.
Make the checklist practical
Do not assign every task every day. Identify the essentials, estimate realistic time and decide who is responsible for each item. Keep special instructions visible and avoid using a checklist as a substitute for a conversation about workload.
Agree on the standard of completion
“Clean the kitchen” can mean different things to different people. Explain which surfaces, appliances and tasks are included, and discuss how often each should be done.
